A Pair of Shoes & A Coat
I was helping this adorable little boy who didn’t speak English very well. I helped him try on his uniform and you would have thought I gave him a million dollars. He then put on his new shoes and socks and I led him to the mirror saying, “You look so smart!”
He asked, “Mine? Mine?,” so I replied, “Yes, you can keep these!” The little boy ran out of the room and then quickly ran back in to glance at himself in the mirror one last time.
His teacher came into The Little Bit Boutique shortly after he left. She told me that she had seen him skipping down the hallway telling everyone, “Look at my shoes!” She then explained that he had never owned a new pair of shoes in his entire life. “You changed that little boy’s life in ten minutes, he’s walking on air!” she exclaimed.
So are we.
A Coat
I was helping a child one afternoon and I asked him if he owned a coat. He said yes, but I was skeptical, so I asked him to retrieve it from his classroom so we could check it out.
Sure enough, the zipper did not work and the lining was almost non-existent. I asked him if it would be okay if we got him a new coat, and he replied, “I’ve never had a new coat before!”
A child that walked in with his head down in shame, walked out with his head held high.
