MUSIC TRIVIA!

TLBF Music Trivia Night

by Katie Martin

Music by everyone from The Monkees and the Beatles to Dave Matthews and Whitney Houston filled the CBC High School atrium the evening of Saturday, February 12. Trivia teams flocked to decorated tables with their team numbers while mingling and testing their music knowledge with challenging questions courtesy of Mike England and Bob Scheetz. Song clips played all night long, which got participants up and out of their seats to dance and sing along, all to benefit the 13 area schools and nearly 3,000 children that The Little Bit Foundation serves each year.

Not only did the over 300 participants have a great time playing along with trivia, but they also were able to learn more about the impact that TLBF has in their St. Louis community from special guest, Principal Nicole Conaway of Mann Elementary. She spoke of the lasting impact that The Little Bit Foundation has had on individual students and the school as a whole. Hearing those firsthand accounts was a great way for the attendees to feel more closely connected to the foundation and its daily operations, as well as its overall goal of meeting students’ basic needs so they can come to school prepared to learn.

Trivia night participants also raised over $17,500 to further the efforts of the foundation’s mission. Thanks to the creativity of the trivia night committee, under the leadership of co-chairs Mike England, Bob Scheetz and Helen Carey, trivia participants were also able to donate in-kind items during the evening, filling backpacks at each table full of school supplies, socks, underwear, toothpaste and toothbrushes that will be delivered directly to children at the 13 area schools that TLBF serves. Special thanks to the night’s committee members: Wendy Berger, Cathy Carey, Carolyn DeGreef, Sandy Fitzgibbon, Kathy Gawlow, Tammy Impicciche, Denise Kniepman, Marcia Leonard, Renee Mitchell, Ted Ruzicka, Julie Simon, Linda Strickland and Lindsey Suntrup for their generous donations of time and talent. Events such as trivia night would not be as successful without their constant support, and The Little Bit Foundation is truly grateful for their efforts. We are already looking forward to another successful trivia night in 2012!
