back-to-school backpack drive

Missouri College Backpack Personal DeliveryDuring the month of August, The Little Bit Foundation, along with Missouri College and four Sanford-Brown College campuses, had an amazing drive that yielded 1000 backpacks, 350 of which were filled with school supplies. In September, Karl Petersen (President of Missouri College), Karl Jefferson (Director of Admissions, Missouri College) and Lisa Mancini (President of SBC - St Peters) went down to Columbia Elementary to distribute directly to students.  Mr. Petersen wrote the names of the children on the backpacks. Each child who got a backpack was met and had the chance to review the contents of the backpack with volunteers before returning to class. It was very powerful to see the difference this drive made to everyone involved.  A total of 42 backpacks where given out that day.

”This is a great opportunity for our students and the public to give back to the community,” said Karl Petersen, Missouri College president. “As educators we understand the importance of early education for all children, regardless of their economic status, and we are pleased to be involved in such an important project. Visiting Columbia Elementary and seeing first-hand the impact Little Bit has on children motivates me to find other ways we can collaborate with the Foundation.”
